Facilities

As an Engineering Research Institute, IEETA has a clear focus on applied research, and a vast majority of the R&D activities rely on laboratory and experimental support. IEETA’s operations are centered around two distinct buildings: the main building, encompassing 1800 m2, serves as the space for the BIT and ISP groups, while a separate 700 m2 open-space laboratory is exclusively dedicated to robotic research conducted by the IRIS group.

The research activities at IEETA are supported by the Taurus computational infrastructure, including two clusters.
* Pleiades HPC cluster: dedicated to scientific computing and AI tasks.
* Hyades VM cluster: focused on application and software development.

The Pleiades and Hyades star clusters in the constellation Taurus symbolize collaboration and growth, respectively. Pleiades represents how multiple computing nodes in the HPC cluster work together to tackle complex scientific and AI challenges, while the Hyades, with its distinctive V-shaped formation, aligns with the purpose of application and software development through virtual machines. In 2024, Taurus features over 15 computing nodes with more than 350 CPU cores and 3 TB of RAM, being equipped with top Nvidia Ampere and Ada Lovelace GPUs essential for deep learning tasks like training and inference on large-scale models.
